The Weather Outside Is Frightful

We had a big snowstorm last weekend and about 20cm fell. I LOVE the "feeling" of a good thunderstorm or blizzard. That feeling of being forced to coze out by the fire and hibernate in the safety of your home with your family and watch the chaos ensue outside. Willow and I cuddled up with a fuzzy blankie and a whole bunch of stuffy's, while J gets too restless and does crazy things like walk the dogs in a snow storm. I don't even think its considered walking at that point, more like going into battle, and getting your ass kicked by wind & snow. Not fun! Although I pulled a crazy and had to get some photo's of the snow. I got punched in the face a dozen times by the wind and unfortunately the pics just didn't do the storm justice.

The snow coverage is unreal for skiing now though. The trails are already all groomed up and I had a great ski today :)

The dogs appear to be getting a whooping

Have you ever seen snow like this?!

We started our day off at the beach where it was very warm and sunny. We had a great walk and Lily actually stayed by our side without her leash!  I had my camera on the night setting so the pictures are a tad discoloured.

Her fave part about the beach... digging!!!

Stole my mitten and did a dance around me. Little brat.

After we had our fun on the beach we decided to take a little drive on the Cabot Trail. I really was just craving my fave spot for poutine but we didn't make it too far as the snow is insane up there!!! Looking back on these pictures it's hard to believe this was all in the same day.

Best winter yet (besides Hawaii)

More snow!! All of the locals were warning us about the winter but coming from Manitoba I was wasn't to worried. In MB it's so cold you have to have your car running for atleast 20 minutes before you can go any where and after being outside for 30 seconds your fingers feel like ice pops inside your mittens. Some days when the wind is blowing it's hard to breathe and you can feel boogies frozen inside your nostrils...YuCk. The winters here are so very mild and beautiful but wow is there ever a lot of snow. It snowed all night last night and we are expecting 20 more cm by tonight. J obviously can't shovel so it leaves me doing the dirty work alone well not alone becuase Lily helps dig :p. I really don't mind as I get distracted and start building snow men, climb hills, make forts and angels.

Lil's path got snowed in

As much help J can do. He got all dressed up to cheer me on :)

Home Sweet Lilith!

We are happy to finally be back on Cape Breton Island! We were finally able to change out of our clothes we have been wearing for 2 weeks as well as receive warms cuddles from our little Lily. She hasn't left my side yet... sweet little thing.

One of the beautiful things about living in a small community is that everyone treats you like family. One of the paramedics who lives in our area took our car keys for us and drove our car back home. Our dear friends Anne-Claude and Michee took care of our Lily and shoveled our front porch, steps and around our car. J's boss would come and check out our house for us and help with the shoveling as well. Anne had also contacted a local snow removal guy and he has been clearing our driveway at no cost after every snowfall. We definitely wouldn't have gotten through this traumatic experience if it wasn't for J's Uncle and Aunt. They treated so well! Fed us, comforted us, and made us feel at home. We are so so so lucky to have all of these people and our friends and family back home supporting us.

Uncle and Aunt drove us all the way home

Making a pee/poop path for Lil

J can't do any shoveling so I must do the dirty work :p

Paint, Peace, and Peanut Butter Cups

Today was such a peaceful day for me. We were expecting a snow storm and so far it's just been snow, not much of a storm. It's been snowing steadily since about 1:00 today. I was in one of those moods where I was just feeling grateful. Grateful for where I live and grateful for all the fabulous people in my life. Every perfect dancing snowflake and Rachael Yamagata and Ray Lamontagne had a lot to do with these thoughts. These exceptional feeling masked the fact I am still priming these dreadful cupboards :p
MY DAY :
My helper

Put my other little helper to work as soon as he got home.
Lily got some paint on her ears while working so hard

We are in desperate need to make the hour and a half drive to go grocery shopping!!! A friend had given us haddock months ago so I decided to put it to use. I baked it in the oven along with some spinach, garlic, tomatoes, oregano, parsley,  pepper, onions and a little bit of  cheese. Then made some rice and tomato sauce to go with it and it was DELICIOUS! I imagine it smells pretty fishy in here though... YUCK

Lily and I relaxing after a hard days work. In the mug is some ice cream with a peanut butter cup. I made a batch of one of my fave treats today but the chocolate didn't set on top it sank right to the bottom of the cup.  Still delicious, just very messy.
Lily loves snow, but she  can't make it down the stairs because there is just too much.
Daddy fixed that!!
Lily watching J.....
Do the hillbilly snow plow. Our driveway is so long and he has to get to work tomorrow. So to avoid shoveling in the morning he is driving up and down our driveway/road hahaha What a guy

Snow Day?

 Silly String

The first 3 were taken off our back deck, the next 2 is down our road. They were calling for a severe snow storm up here for last night and today. School was shutdown and everything. It only snowed hard last night and today its all wet slushy mush. In MB school was shutdown if the windchill reached -45, which would happen a hand full of times throughout the year. Last night was 0 and today was plus 3!! Everyone was warning me about how terribly cold the winters are here, I personally have only felt cold once so far. That's also because it was a windy day and I was walking in between the ocean and a lake. I am loving these mild winters!!! I love playing in puddles and stomping on those ice bubbles. There is something so satisfying hearing and feeling that crunch beneath your boot.
